Today’s Brew: Chimay

leave a comment »

While I’m in State College, PA, I revert to the ways of my college days and drink beer. Older now, I have a different relationship with beer, and I look forward to the different kind of pleasure it offers. There will be no swill, no backwash, no pumping the keg for another cup; now it will be carefully selected, then enjoyed with a more sophisticated pallette.

Last night I had Arrogant Bastard Ale (Tag line: “You are Not Worthy”). Nice beer, maybe explains a bit of my pretentiousness with this post.

Tonight’s brew choice: Chimay (probably Chimay Blue)

From the Chimay website :

Take a bottle of Chimay, uncork it, smell it, already the beer is giving off its subtle aromas.

Then allow this incomparable liquid to pour slowly into its Trappist chalice. Then just close your eyes and savour it.

You are not drinking an ordinary beer, this is a Trappist beer, a beer of tradition that you are tasting!

“A Chimay is not drunk, it is tasted, mouthful after mouthful”

Chimay will be my pleasure tonight.

To my old friends Meister Brau, Old Milwaukee, Schlitz Malt Liquor, and Iron City: You are distant memories to me now, and you are not worthy.
